This Remembrance Day, Danielle and Court feel incredibly fortunate to honour the stories of our grandfathers - two Canadians whose courage in the Second World War continues to inspire us today.
Wing Commander Johnny Fauquier (RCAF)
Danielle’s grandfather
One of Canada’s most distinguished bomber leaders, Johnny Fauquier flew more than 100 operational missions with No. 405 and 617 Squadrons. A master pilot and fearless commander, he helped lead some of Bomber Command’s most complex and dangerous operations.
Among Danielle’s cherished keepsakes are her grandfather’s rice paper maps of France and a 50th anniversary commemorative Lancaster coin, powerful reminders of service, skill, and leadership.
Flying Officer Robert Victor Desautels (RCAF)
Court’s grandfather
A bomb aimer with 50 Squadron, Robert Desautels was the sole survivor when his Lancaster was shot down during the attack on the Révigny Viaduct in 1944. After parachuting into occupied France, he was taken in by the French Resistance, living and working alongside them as he recovered.
He survived capture by the Milice, escaped from prison, and eventually made it back to Allied lines.
Decades later, the emergency exit door from his aircraft was recovered near Robert-Magny, a remarkable artifact that keeps his story alive.
Today, as teammates, Danielle and Court are grateful to be able to carry these stories forward, to honour the sacrifices of those who served, those who resisted, and those who never returned.
We remember them.
We honour their courage.
Lest we forget.
